A New Frontier

This film from the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is the story of the creation of the Colorado River Reservation and the efforts to relocate the Boundary Reservation Navajo indians from the land that will no longer support their numbers to it. Beginning with the clearing of trees and brush. In WW II Japanese Americans were relocated here, and the barracks constructed for there use, are now temporary shelter until the new tenants can build their own homes. Some of the barracks have been sold and torn down for materials to use in the new constructions. Farming and Cattle raising are increasingly popular on this new land.

Moving on to the current reservation, and an explanation of how they created their building materials. Next the reclamation of the river banks, and flood plains is shown, and the methods used there, to increase the crop growth, and cattle grazing.

This silent film without title cards, starts with a woman baking bread, and several shots of the reservation. Next is a footrace, and a dance. After the festivities, we see the cleaning of the oven, and the children practicing for a dance. More views of the village, and then more bread baking, and cooking close out the film.
