Private SNAFU - Booby Traps (1944)

Private Snafu enters a recently abandoned enemy zone and learns, the hard way, about the dangers of enemy booby traps. Despite warnings our hero barely manages to survive throughout the film from one near mishap to another including the literal "Booby Trap", giant mouse trap, drop away floors. Until finally, the exploding piano gag gets our hero.

Made by the US Army Signal Corps. This cartoon, produced by Warner Brothers, is one of the Private SNAFU ('Situation Normal, All Fouled Up) series. Created, to boost morale and educate, by Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and Phil Eastman. Voice actors include Mel Blanc.

Detecting Booby Traps (1940's)

British training film adopted for use by the US. This film begins with a light discussion of the types of Booby Trap primarily Standard or Improvised.
Moving on to the construction techniques including the most important step that of drawing the unwary attention and removing all evidence of tampering. Includes the exploding Piano, the hollow book, and the cabinet bomb. Watch as a room is loaded with booby traps for a pair of german soldiers. See another set of german soldiers blown up by the bomb under a bucket, whole the near hut is set with a time delay burn fuse. Keep in mind that any trap you set must be told to any friendly units as far as type and location to keep them safe. learn the principles of dummy traps to fool the enemy for the second trap. Learn some of the equipment carried by the infantry that can be used to examine an area for traps. Watch as a party of sappers go through a house recently left by the enemy.

Unexploded Bombs (1940's) Another British training film, this time on unexploded aerial bombs. Being that the British were intimately familiar with unexploded bombs allot of the basic information that "Everyone" was familiar with was not included in this film. However what is included in still worth while to the US troops. Learn the common mistakes made through hasty examinations or no examination at all. Learn about the two main types of bombs, the demolition or high explosive and armor piercing types. Learn about the approximate explosive loads of the german bombs, and the fuse types that may be attached. Learn the general entry hole examination techniques used to determine the size of the UXB.
