Deep Submergence Rescue System

Follows the story of the US Navy deployment of the DSRV, and DSRV II. With the airlifting by the C-141 to ports around the world to mate with the nearest nuclear sub designated as mother subs. Once the search has narrowed the location to an area of about 6 Sq. miles, the DSRV crewmen begin to plan and finish their checklists, once launched the search speed is 1-2 knots. In the rendezvous stage the DSRV examines the disabled sub with her view ports and external cameras, and returns to the mother sub for supplies. In the rescue phase the DSRV mates with the disabled sub, matches the internal pressure in the back portions of the DSRV to the disabled sub. The hatches are opened and supplies are transferred if necessary, and those rescued are transferred 24 per trip. The DSRV can also operate from the XX submarine rescue ship.

Torpedo Control

An in-depth review of the torpedo set-up targeting and launch procedures. Starting with the sound approach, and infrequent, short periscope observation. With the sonar operator listening for sound contacts. With much techno-jargon this is a very informative film. Follow along as an American sub, tracks and plots the torpedo firing solution on an enemy carrier.

Take 'er Down

Historical record of the US submarine from the stubby, two masted version in 1900 through WW II where the small sub fleet at pearl harbor was not attacked, and that fleet went on to hound the Japanese unmercifully, sinking 1178 merchant ships, and 214 Japanese combat vessels, 2/3 of the merchant fleet and 1/3 of the navy. The cross training is comprehensive in all areas of sub operation, including the diving ascent through 100 feet of water to show that he knows the safety procedures. New Submariners are able to draw several types of duty, from radar picket, guided missile launcher, hunter killer, deep water testing, or troop carrier. Now the newest weapon in the submarine arsenal, the Nautilus - the first nuclear powered sub, launched in Jan 1964.
