| Care and Release of Pigeons in the Field |
Video quality is low due to changes in contrast; the video is too light or too dark in places Training film for US Service men. Detailing the times and uses of the pigeon for communications. Stored near divisional or higher command in PG-46's (Portable lofts) and sent to the front, PG 15's or PG 49 (30 Birds). Transported in PG 60's (4 bird crates to the troops, offer sufficient protection for all weather conditions. Always check the upper portion of the crate for the special feed two days and three nights worth, and the spare message tubes, and booklets. Once arrived, find suitable space for the crate and take care of the feeding and watering. Follow a recon patrol, and watch as they use the pigeon to communicate. When releasing the bird, check for wires and such, and open the door. Some pigeons are specially trained for night flight, the main difference is in the launching - done by hand for the night flyers. Includes the procedure for launching from a moving tank.
Back at the Home loft, written messages are phoned in to HQ, maps, and the like, are hand delivered.
